- Patient should remain in hospital till end of distraction. That way
any little problems are taken care of right away
- Not a good idea to travel with the Lizarov fixator
- Physiotherapy is 100% essential
- There will be scars at the pin sites
- For distraction beyond 3.5 cm, i felt muscle pain
- Hospital stay Very hard on the mind--depressing
- Hospital bed very uncomfortable for long stay
- Hospital Food is pretty tasteless but clean
- The mattress etc may have been uncomfortable, but i believe the stay
in the hospital was critical for the success of the procedure. There
are so many little things that could have gone wrong, and it was only

I and Vaishali have been married for 10 yrs. She has Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Hyperthyroidism. Due to this she always had irregular periods and we were told that having a baby would be challenging if not time consuming. We went through multiple cycles of Clomid treatment. When that didn't work, we opted for treatment using hCG hormone injections. When that too was a failure, we were told that the best option is to go for specialized infertility treatment. These treatments being very expensive in USA, they are usually beyond the affordable range and rarely covered by insurance. Apart from that, since all our parents and family are back in India, we wanted to preferably go through this phase of treatment back home so that an emotional and family support is available. Since we are from Mumbai/Pune area, we wanted to explore the possibility of finding a good infertility specialist (in that area) whom we can consult with during our forthcoming visit to India. We were looking for someone who is not only a leader in this field, but also someone whom we can trust at emotional level to continue with the process. But this was going to be a daunting task of finding a needle in the hay.
Fortunately, Vaishali's brother in India (who is a pediatrician) did some digging around and based on the feedback he received from his colleagues and acquaintances and his own visit to the clinic, highly recommended Dr. Mandakini Parihar. We were a little hesitant in contacting her all the way from USA through email, as we were not sure if she would respond at all and give us the time we need, remotely. But we were pleasantly surprised to see her prompt response. She was not only very prompt in answering all our questions over email, but even studied our medical reports (that we scanned and emailed her) and advised additional tests which we could do in US - thus saving time.
Within couple of months, we were in India. And rest is all history. Dr. Mandakini very patiently answered all our questions (no matter how dumb or silly they were) and explained the whole procedure in a very easy to understand language. She is very down to earth person, and understands how emotional these things can get, and handles it really very well. Her staff was very supportive and helpful during the entire process. There was an immediate bonding between us and Dr. Mandakini, and there was no second thought that we were going to put ourselves into the trusted hands of her. She started off Vaishali with some medications in order to prep her for the IUI process.
Even though we were driving like about 1.5 hrs one-way to go to her clinic and the number of her patients coming in to see her never seemed to be going down, but no doubt it was fully worth the time we spent commuting. She somehow seemed to have a magical ability to understand your deeper concerns and put you at ease immediately. She totally understood the time constraint we had. I was going to be in India only for 3 weeks. But Vaishali flew in few weeks early and was going to be staying back in Mumbai for a while. Dr. Mandakini worked with us and made sure that by the time I come to India, we are all set to start the IUI process, and take full advantage of me being there.
The next 10 days waiting for the result was the most taxing emotionally. I came to know the results 1 week after I flew back to USA and Vaishali and I was ecstatic to know that the results were positive. And this happened after the very first cycle of IUI procedure itself. Isn't that awesome. We are currently in 9th week of pregnancy, and Dr. Mandakini is still very attentive to us. She is available anytime to answer any questions either by email or cell phone. What is really commendable is she does all that despite being a very busy person, who in addition to handling her clinic & patients, regularly attends international conferences, publishes papers and shares her work with the community. She immediately makes you feel at home and you feel that you are in good hands. Clearly we would never have found a better doctor than Dr. Mandakini Parihar. She and her staff is really a class apart. We got the best possible treatment from them.

During the 1st successful pregnancy (Normal Delivery) my weight was 114 kg which was post - delivery 107 kg which bothered me very much causing lots of Anxiety, feeling of guilty for weight gain which increased day by day, affecting in physical fitness & emotional changes. I tried some Aerobic exercise tried to control my Diet, used Mechanical apparatus for weight loss but in vain. After IInd Pregnancy (CS) my weight was all time high i.e. 130kg which made me very nervous along with complication's of massive weight gain started arising (High blood Pressure, knee pain difficulty in breathing etc.)
I was desperate to reduce my weight for better living and physical fitness, but no methods was helping me since my problem was over eating in stress. I had no control over it. I can not describe my mental status of that time. (Hesitation, Anxiety, restlessness & rarely only once suicide thought)
I was desperate to do any thing (Expect Diet Control) for weight for weight reduction, In search I came to know about surgical procedures for weight reduction (Castric Binding etc.) I chose Gastric-Binding and was operated upon on 19th Dec. 2005 by charming and sincere Expert Dr. MUFFAZAL LAKDAWALA and his team. With in span of one weak my weight gain stopped and I started loosing my body weight hence after within 11 month's of post operative period I lost 34Kg. of body weight. Which was not possible by any other means before? |

In a alternative methods (like Yoga, Exercise, Drugs etc.) people find to loose weight initially but as you stop practicing them again there is weight gain. Which is not a case in Gastric-Binding as weight gain does not occur at any way.
Today I feel more energetic, cheerful. I don't have pain in my knee's, my blood pressure is normal and my weight is 85 Kg. Igo for shopping. I can purchase ready made dresses, earlier which were not their body size.
I strongly recommend to all obese person whose cause of obesity is directly related to cating habits and those who can not control their Diet, should consider for Gastric Binding as it reduces food intake by 60 to 70% and automatically helping in weight loss.

My wife and self went through years of being probed at medically and psychologically to be diagnosed with PCOD ovaries.
Indeed the pain of what was revealed to us was far intense than PCOD itself, and then started the intense search to beat nature itself and month after month we tried and humans as we are we failed.
God made humans, but to some he gave his own entended hands, he gave them a part of himself, he shared with them his power of creation.
Dr. Mandakini was like a god send angel who bought in gods blessings in our lives. Indeed we thanks god for the privilege of parenthood, but at the same time we are amazed at the way the creator is using Dr. Mandakini for his work.
We are overwhelmed by her confidence in her god given ability, that she has horned and chisled out further to achieve the laser like accuracy in her diagnosis and thereafter the cure.

| I continue to be excited and thankful about my progress. At the end of week 4, I was hiking at the edge of the wilderness again and doing stream crossings in the crystal clean mountain water. During the 6th week, my hiking time was up to 8 hours on relatively easy terrain along the headwaters of the Dearborn river. My quads and hamstrings are building strength daily and the ROM is almost back to normal. I still am challenged by a full squat but I keep working on it each day using props for support. |

The World Championships is held in Kailua Kona, Hawaii each October. This was the third Ironman distance triathlon I attempted this year (post-op); I failed to finish the first in July due to dehydration (that was in Frankfurt, Germany, and is the European Championship) but had a very good bike and a pretty good run going. The second was in Honolulu, Hawaii two weeks later, in August 2006, and I not only finished but won my division and qualified for the World Championships.
The hip is significantly better than it has been for years - absolutely no pain, a much better range of motion - as you can see from the cycling photo, you have to bring your knee to your chest 80 times per minute - for 6 hours! I am noticing much better power as the tendons seem to finally be recovering from years of chaffing across that joint. Great news!
I have been invited to compete in the Ultraman World Championships the last weekend of November, and expect to place in the top ten overall in that event, which is longer then a regular Ironman triathlon. I feel confident that I will be on equal footing with the other competitors throughout.

This is the 2006 Ironman World Championships held October 21, 2006 - 10 months to the day of my procedure!
I had a wonderful time all day, and had no difficulty completing the distances of 2.4 miles swimming, 112 miles bicycling, and 26.2 miles running, despite difficult weather conditions throughout the day. My time was 90 minutes faster than last years time, despite the fact that i was taking it very easy so as to not undo any of your fine handiwork!
I expect next year to be back as competitive as I ever was, with absolutely no concession to the BHR hip . I had absolutely no pain before, during, or after this event.

| I celebrated my 1 year anniversary of my left BHR (Birmingham Hip Resurfacing)on July 30, 2006! It was one year ago on that date that my life underwent a profound and beautiful transformation under the golden hands of Dr. Vijay C. Bose. I am 52 years old and have been a dancer, children's creative dance teacher and yoga teacher for over 30 years. I had been struggling for over 5 years with increasingly debilitating osteoarthritis in both hips. Literally, my students were in pain watching me try to walk down the hall - I was in continual pain and in many ways, disabled. It was impossible to walk more than a few blocks and was becoming increasingly difficult to work and enjoy my natural love of life. Thankfully, I found out about Hip Resurfacing and then, Dr. Vijay C. Bose and the India experience. Once I communicated via email with Dr. Vijay C. Bose, my fears vanished and I eagerly made plans for my upcoming surgery. Words can hardly describe the magnificence of my entire experience from hospital stay to the stay at the Taj Resort on the Indian Ocean! I was treated with such kindness, gentleness and professionalism by the staff of the hospital Nurses were continually checking to be sure my needs were met and Dr.Vijay C. Bose visited me everyday despite his busy and demanding schedule! My recovery was astonishing! I was walking with the elbow crutches comfortably within a few days, down to 1 crutch within 2 weeks and back to teaching the day after my return from India (mind you, I was not doing a lot of poses, but I was up there teaching!!). Yes, it has taken a lot longer to fully recover, but the beauty of it is, I am still gaining in range of motion and strength!
