Cataract Surgery

A cataract is an opacification of the crystalline lens within the eye. Commonly seen in the older age group after 50 - 60 years of age. The symptoms of a cataract are gradual , painless decrease in vision. Some people may experience double vision. Some may express a feeling of seeing through a translucent curtain.

The only treatment of a cataract is surgery. The hazy or opaque lens is removed and an artificial lens is inserted. Modern day cataract surgery is very different from what it was earlier.

Phakoemulsification:

Phakoemulsification is a procedure wherein ultrasonic energy is used to emulsify the cataract into multiple small fragments and these are sucked out of the eye with the help of the same probe which emulsifies it. So the size of the incision is only 3 mm which is the size of the probe. The procedure is absolutely sutureless.

Foldable intraocular lens are inserted, depending on the requirement of the patient.

This is a walk in - walk out procedure and patients can get back to routine activities immediately.
